Vibration insulation
Vibration insulation makes use of the effect that a reduction of the transmission of mechanical vibrations that are caused by exterior excitations can be achieved by mass force compensation. The mass forces are generated by the vibration movements of the given vibration-capable system. Passive vibration insulation elements and, if necessary, additional masses are used for vibration insulation. The vibration insulation elements feature elastic and damping characteristics. Initially, it is assumed that the vibration insulated system itself is infinitely rigid.

A vibration insulation is distinguished as follows:
  • source insulation, emission protection: transmission reduction of forces and moments to the environment.
  • receiver insulation, immission protection: shielding of an object to be protected against vibration influence from the environment.
* When insulated against vibrations, the mass of the system to be protected has to be in motion so that mass forces occur which act in the undamped case against the generating forces so that by mass force compensation the forces coming out of the system are reduced in the case of a source insulation. The desired reductions can only be achieved if the insulation natural frequency of the system to be protected is lower than the operating frequency of a machine. In order to reduce vibration movements (amplitudes) of the elastically installed machine or plant in the insulation range in the case of a source insulation, the use of additional masses mZ, e.g. as foundation, steel plate, may be helpful. The foundation design and calculation of the rigidity with all boundary conditions is the building owner's matter.
